Long bio

David Pakman is Managing Partner and Head of Venture Investments at CoinFund, a blockchain-native investment firm founded in 2015. He co-founded the Apple Music Group in 1995, spent more than a decade as a partner at Venrock (where he led the early investment in Dollar Shave Club and served on its board through its $1 billion acquisition by Unilever), and has been an internet entrepreneur and venture investor across five internet eras (personal computer, Web1, Web2/social/cloud, mobile, and crypto).

David came into crypto as a consumer internet entrepreneur and has stayed close to the products people actually use, driven by a conviction that the next generation of financial infrastructure will be built onchain and that the founders building it today are as important as the ones who built the early internet.

At CoinFund, Pakman invests in early-stage crypto networks, financial infrastructure, and consumer applications built on blockchain technology. His portfolio includes LI.FI, Ether.Fi, Veda, and Raad.

At Venrock, Pakman invested in early-stage consumer and enterprise technology companies, including Dollar Shave Club, Smartling, Dstillery, and Dapper Labs. He continues to support the firm as an advisor. He also sat on the board of Arduino for more than five years until its acquisition by Qualcomm.

He began his career at Apple as a Product Manager, co-founded the Music Group and then became a founder and operator during the early years of the internet, co-founding MyPlay, one of the first cloud-based digital music locker platforms, which grew to more than eight million users before being acquired by Bertelsmann eCommerce Group in 2001. He later became CEO of digital music platform eMusic, where he grew the company from roughly $7 million to $68 million in revenue while helping move the music industry toward open MP3 distribution. Earlier, he led product development and business development at N2K, one of the first online music companies, operating Music Boulevard.

Pakman has served on the boards of Simbe Robotics, Smartling, Dstillery, and Arduino, and on the Board of Overseers for the University of Pennsylvania School of Engineering and Applied Science and St. Luke’s School.

He writes and speaks frequently about crypto markets, stablecoins, decentralized finance, and the role blockchain infrastructure will play in future financial systems.
